Typical materials for a gravel project

  • Gravel
  • Landscape fabric
  • Edging
  • Compactor rental

Tonnage depends on stone type and compaction. Verify depth requirements for your use case.

Understanding the results

Gravel coverage depends on area, depth, and stone density. Suppliers often sell by the ton, so we convert cubic yards using your density assumption.

  • Depth is converted from inches to feet before volume is calculated
  • Cubic yards = (length × width × depth in ft) ÷ 27
  • Tons = cubic yards × density (default 1.4 tons/yd³)
  • Recommended tons include waste and round up to the nearest 0.1 ton

Results are planning estimates based on typical assumptions. Verify quantities with product labels and your project layout before purchase. How we calculate

Frequently asked questions

A 20×10 driveway at 3 inches deep needs about 1.85 cubic yards or roughly 2.6 tons at standard density. Depth of 4–6 inches is common for driveways — adjust depth in the calculator.
