Typical materials for a flooring project

  • Flooring
  • Underlayment
  • Transition strips
  • Expansion spacers

Box counts are a planning estimate. Confirm box coverage on the product label before ordering.

Understanding the results

Flooring material is ordered by the box. We calculate room square footage, add your waste allowance, then divide by box coverage to get an order quantity.

  • Floor area = room length × room width (sq ft)
  • Area with waste = floor area × (1 + waste%)
  • Boxes needed = area with waste ÷ box coverage
  • Recommended boxes round up to a whole number

Results are planning estimates based on typical assumptions. Verify quantities with product labels and your project layout before purchase. How we calculate

Frequently asked questions

A 12×10 room is 120 sq ft. With 10% waste, order about 132 sq ft. If your box covers 20 sq ft, that is roughly 7 boxes. Use the calculator for your box coverage.
